How to build a sump pump cover

Sump covers are required in order to protect the pump from damage. It may be required to have one, or you may leave it unprotected. Of course that you can buy a sump pump cover, but why do this, when you can build your own.

Some of the tools and materials that you will need are:

• Plywood
• Foam-Rubber Gasket
• Sealant
• PVC Pipe – 4 Inch Diameter

Measurements

Before starting to build the cover, you need to make sure that you have the right measurements. Use a measuring tape to do this. After this, you will need to take the plywood sheets and cut them in size.

Sealing the cover

The cover needs to be sealed in order to protect the pump from water flooding. Use a foam-rubber gasket to do this. Besides the edges of the plywood, you will also need to seal the cover around the vent pipes, power cord and discharge pipe.

Ventilation

One more thing that you can do is install a vent for the sump pump. So get a PVC pipe with a vent stack and install it on the cover.
