Preventing is the easiest way to deal with a flood. You do not want to deal with the aftermath of a basement flood. You will need to make sure that your basement and home are well protected with waterproof materials.
You basement is the most prone area to flooding because its set under the ground level. There are many things that you can do to prevent water flooding in your basement.
Local codes
The first thing you need to do is make sure that you fulfill all the local codes concerning drainage systems and waterproofing. Always have drainage systems installed by licensed plumbers and have them checked by licensed inspectors.
If you have leakage problems, there are a few things that you can check by yourself:
- sewer valves – you will need to regulate the flow of water from your house
- drain plugs – they are great as they will tell you when the pressure is higher.
Sealing the walls and floors is also one thing that you need to do immediately.
Storm water
Storm drains are always left for the last part, but they shouldn’t. Drain spouts can cause serious problems if they direct water near your home’s foundation.
