Killing basement mold
Mold is a serious problem for every homeowner. Not only that mold can damage your belongings, but it can also cause health problems. Mold is very resistant and if it’s not removed properly, it will grow back.
Cleaning the basement
First of all you will need to do some cleaning. Use a borax solution to remove the mold. It acts just like bleach, but it’s a lot more safe for your health. You will need to mix one cup of borax with one gallon of water. Use a sponge or a rag to apply it to the affected areas.
Humidity
Because mold thrives in moist areas, it’s very important to have a dry basement in order to fully get rid of mold. You can use a dehumidifier to remove the moisture from the air.
If you have an air conditioning unit in your basement, you can use it as a dehumidifier or a ventilation system.
Other problems
If you have used a dehumidifier, and mold still keeps appearing, then this is a more serious problem. Check the basement for cracks and leaks from pipes. If you find a problem that you cannot solve by yourself, make sure you call a professional to handle it. This is much safer for you and your home.
