Making a sump pump pit

Sump pump pits are designed to collect water and feed it to the pump. It’s important to make a good sump pump pit, otherwise, the pump may not function at its full capacity.

Some of the tools and materials that you will need are:

  • Tape measure
  • Sump pump liner
  • Level
  • Digging equipment

Location

The sump pump pit needs to be positioned where water tend to build up.

This will help you prevent any more work for making a trench. Make sure that you have no pipes or utilities in that area.

Making the hole

The pit needs to be 2 feet wide and 2-3 feet deep. It needs to house the liner that came with the pump.

Liner

You need to make sure that the liner sits smoothly in the hole. Use dirt to fill the space around the liner. This will fix the liner in place. The liner will stop any debris and dirt from entering your pump and damaging it.
