Preparing for a vapor barrier installation
Vapor barriers are great from keeping moisture out of your home and also prevent mold and mildew growth. These last two can lead to health problems. If you have just installed your home’s insulation, then you should think of installing a vapor barrier to protect it from moisture.
Cleaning
Cleaning is a very important step before installing the vapor barrier. You will need to use a brush and a vacuum cleaner to remove all the dust and debris from the walls. You may also need to scrape old paint off the walls. After removing the dust, use soap and water to wash them.
Mastic
After the cleaning, use mastic to rub the walls and floors. Read the instructions of the manufacturer. You can either use a paint brush or a roller to apply the mastic. You can leave some areas where the mastic is a little raised to permit the barrier to better adhere.
Barrier
Now, all you need to do is roll out the polyethylene onto the floor and add the mastic to the lower part of the material. You will need to wait half an hour before placing the barrier on the surface of the walls.
