Sump pump plumbing
Sump pumps are great for removing water from underground places, like basements. Before installing a sump pump, you will need to know a few things about the plumbing required.
The pit
The pit is the hole in the basement floor that collects the water.
The pump
The sump pump is the motor that sucks all the water collected in the pit and moves it to a safe place outside, away from your home. There are many types of sump pumps, some that work on electricity, and some use household water pressure. The latter is great in case of a power outage. Also, sump pump can be submersible, meaning that these are waterproof and can be placed in the sump pit, or pedestal pumps, that need to be placed on a higher support in the basement. Usually sump pumps trigger using a ball float or a mercury-activated floating switch.
